7 Detroit residents charged with RICO and other violations

On Behalf of Michael A. Rataj, PC | Oct 30, 2020 | White-Collar Crimes

Alleged members of a well-known gang that operates in the Detroit area were recently arrested. The charges against them include RICO, drug and other violations. If convicted on these federal charges, each of these individuals is looking at years behind bars and hefty fines, among other potential penalties. How each of the accused approaches their case is going to matter.

According to reports, a total of seven individuals, who range in age from 26 to 35 years old, were taken into custody. According to the indictment, which was unsealed Oct. 22, these individuals are accused of acts of racketeering – including drug trafficking and murder. They are also accused of selling drugs and maintaining weapons and drug stashes at various homes around the city.

It is unclear if or when each of the accused cases will go to trial. Not all federal cases do, though some may benefit from fighting things out in court rather than working out a plea agreement. Thankfully, each of the accused individuals in this case has the right to retain legal counsel to help make informed decisions as they navigate the federal criminal court system.

The RICO and other violations noted in this case are not anything that state or federal authorities will treat lightly. The seven accused individuals stand to lose a lot if they are not careful about how they approach their cases. With the assistance of a Detroit-based criminal defense attorney who has experience fighting cases at the federal level, these individuals will have the ability to question evidence and take other steps to defend themselves. While no one can guarantee any particular outcome, legal counsel will work diligently to achieve the best result possible for the client.
